Pretentiously fixing Italian food around the world
Top Aberrations
This page contains a collection of the Top Italian aberrations that I’ve come across, incredible examples of how one can really miss the point with Italian food.
#1 – Mac and Cheese Pizza
November 15, 2010 – Photo taken in a corporate Cafeteria, in Vancouver
#2 – Meat, Macaroni and Cheese Loaf
Jan 10, 2011 – Sold in Canada
#3 – Poutine Pizza
November 27, 2010 – Photo taken on Commercial Drive, Vancouver
#4 – Spaghetti in a Can
September 2014 – Picture taken in the UK.The fact that the spaghetti are “in a rich and tasty tomato sauce” doesn’t help…
#5 – Mexican Pizza (with Nachos!)
August 2013 – Picture taken in the UK, courtesy of Marco
#6 – The Lone Lasagna Bathing in Tomato
I’m speechless… The absolute worst way to keep a slice of lasagna warm. Seen in an allegedly Italian fast food restaurant in Calgary.
#7 – Old World Style Ragù
Original because “Flavored with Real Ground Beef”? Ragù is a meat sauce, not a questionable tomato sauce *flavored* with meat. Besides, what else can ground beef be other than real?
#8 – The “Parmesan” Shaker
The parmesan shaker is a must in every pizza place in North America. Yet, there is no such thing as ‘parmesan’ – the powdery “cheese” that never goes bad! In Italy, you will find freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano or at least Grana Padano. And it’s for pasta, not for pizza.
#9 – Beef Lasagna Casserole (and Garlic Toast)
October 22, 2011 – Photo taken outside a famous coffee shop, in Vancouver.
#10 – The Lightest Coffee Ever Made
November 20, 2010 – Photo taken in a UBC cafe, in Vancouver
#11 – Meatballs Pizza
Mar 15, 2013 – From a popular pizza joint in Vancouver
#12 – Crunchy Cheesy Bites Pizza
December 1, 2013 – Street ad from a popular pizza chain (photo taken in Vancouver)
#13 – Pizza Mozzarella
November, 2015 – There is no such thing as Pizza Mozzarella! Only mozzarella mozzarella. (Photo taken in Vancouver)
December 2017, coffee bar on South Granville, Vancouver

disgusting.
Ha! My Mac & Cheese Pizza is so much better.
I'm glad you put in #8. I could never quite understand that one…

Josie, I agree and I almost missed it! I guess I am starting to take some things for granted… Please let me know if you notice anything else that should be on this page 🙂
My mom was forced to eat mac & cheese loaf as a kid, I felt really bad for her when she told me that 🙂
OHHHH MY!!!!!!! I have seen bad stuff around, but these beat them all!! :-(((( I cannot decide which one is the most disgusting… but I think #1 and #2 are on the top of my list too… YUCK!
I've had much worse coffee – every place in London that didn't have a New Zealand barista
Oh my God… this gallery is hilarious!! And what about the "Italian Dressing" and the "Italian Wedding Soup"? ! 😉
